CONFESSION: WHAT I LEARNED FROM BEING WITH A RICHER GIRL

Stephanie , at the time you were richer.... I think you still are
Stephanie , at the time you were richer.😂😂😂😂… I think you still are😂😂😂

This true confession will tell you why you should not let her money stop you from making your move. Shocking true story reveals lessons to be learnt, from a WhatsApp group to a date.

So from poems back and forth. We were making calls talking rubbish, from how she is not happy with the woman grinding beans for her moin-moin, to how we should meet.

And bam, we agreed! A movie date. So, I went for a dutch date (a date where everybody pays for their bill).

She declined and said she’ll get movie tickets and I’ll get food. In my head, food won’t be more than pop corn and drink, so it’s still good!🌝🤗🤗

So, I got there first. Date venue was film house Port Harcourt.

Different girls were coming, some I’d wish it was her, some I’d say, “pls don’t be stephanie”

Finally she came… Omooooo… Girl was fine, and with the Abuja accent.. I was thrown off. I wanted to hug her, but I was confused.

All my confidence over the phone flew away😂😂😂😂😂

Funny thing is Stephanie is still pretty
Funny thing is Stephanie is still pretty😊🙃🙃😊😊

She apologized for coming late, while I tried to savour her beauty without her knowledge. (I wondered if she knew)

I mean, I had to act like I’ve been seeing pretty girls in this PH too na.

Next thing was, “what movie are we seeing.”
—”Oh, it’s up to you my lady.”
— “Paul, please stop all this chivalry”

😂😂

As she moved to get the tickets, I tried to watch from behind too. Lemme observe the load behind. (I’m an African man, please 😊)

She got the movie tickets and as we got to our meal, she said, “Paul, I’m on my period, and I eat a lot during my period”

😂😂😂😂 Which kind scope be this? But then, I felt Steph was too pure to come and do me like this? So, I said, “sure.”

Steph, I had to share this, when you couldn't get enough
Steph, I had to share this, when you couldn’t get enough😅😅

Steph got shawarma, salty popcorn and a fruit juice. By this point, she had exceeded ‘budget’. 😂😂😂😂

Meanwhile, I had borrowed N1,000 from my sister to add to N700 in my account. My mind was, popcorn and soft drinks N1,600

She then offered to pay, thinking I had money, that I should transfer to her. Well, I took nothing, only water as not to cross budget.

As we sat for the movie, my mind was on how I would pay back without appearing broke.

After the movie, she said she didn’t feel like going home now, that she wants us to walk around. I took it that I’m being a great date. 🤔😊😊

We started looking (window shopping) at stuffs at the mall. Then she picked a particular perfume, and smelt it, then asked of the price.

I observed with keen interest as I could see that my date, Steph, was richer than I was.

Oh this poem, was mused by her. At the time after a swimming date.
Oh this poem, was mused by her. At the time after a swimming date.

When told the price, she said, “Awwwnnn, so bad.😔😔 I wanted this perfume, but I’m broke, I’ll come back when I’m richer.”

That was it! What do you guys call it again? That was my rhema! 😅😅

While we walked, she yapped but my mind was on the event that just occurred. Omo!

Awwwwwn, so bad. I wanted this perfume, but I’m broke, I’ll come back when I’m richer.

~ Stephanie to the salesperson

This was a perfume that I will be scared to touch, I mean I was a teacher that time, yet to get my NYSC certificate, so yes you can imagine my salary. + It was a private school, where you get to be paid late. 😅😅

I should stop here, as we have reach the moral lesson….

END OF STORY!

But itchy fingers… Here goes more of the story👇👇

I was fine sha, and Stephanie was fine too
I was fine sha, and Stephanie was fine too😎😎

Stephanie told me she wanted another movie. . I wanted another, but I was scared, cos I was broke.

So this time, we got there, she asked what I wanted, I said nothing. She persisted, and oh, I felt she was paying, so I took what I wanted.

Only for me to hear, after 2 minutes, “Paul, I hope you know we’re paying with your card this time?”

😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😂 Haew🙆!

Then she said, don’t bother. She paid. I ate slowly, while at the movie, I felt so indebted, and it seemed like I had lost control.

Steph acted normal. 😂😂😂 after the movies, we took a cab to her house, fare was about N2,000. Meanwhile my house was N100 away.

I followed her to her house, and promised a second date.

After that date, I went to meet my employer for my salaries been owed 😂😂🙆😂😂

Omooo
… Fast forward, there was another date, a swimming date, and then a birthday at her house.

Somehow sha, life happened between us both.

But the conversation I had with Stephanie in the cab back home was why I was able to publish my first book that same year 2019. We had met in June and by October, my first book – THE VISIT was out in paperback and on online bookstores.

2 years on, I’ve found it easier going after ladies irrespective of their finance. But far from dating, the lesson I want you to learn is this.

Stephanie tree climbing
Stephanie tree climbing

When she saw that perfume, she didn’t shy away from it, as I would have done. She picked it, and thought of how to get it, and then she said, “I will come back for it when I’m richer.”

Maybe she never went back to it. Maybe she never did. But she conditioned her mindset that she could get it.

It’s the same thing you should have for your life. You should never have that mind of “I CAN’T AFFORD IT”. That’s a statement or mindset of the poor.

WHAT REALLY IS SCALABLE INCOME?

Scalable income

Scalable income sounds like a sweet rhyming word, but I will break it down for you to get what I mean.

Many times people complain about their wives, boss, family, church members, colleagues, friends; look very well, it all boils down to money.

Money governs everything, or as some would say, answereth all things.

ALSO READ: NYSC DAY 3: SWEARING IN & ELECTIONS

Now, in Nigeria my country, many people are thrilled with getting a job, and once they get the job they feel relaxed and complacent.

Ten years later, you still see them on the job, being all grumpy about it, yet refusing to quit.

But then, when they compare themselves to their ‘mates’ who don’t have a ‘job’, it feels like they’ve been overtaken.

SCALABLE INCOME:

Scalable income simply means income that can grow. Now, when you get employed at a job, you are being paid for your skills and time.

But the difference is, while your pay is sure, it is fixed. Even in cases where promotion is attainable, you find out that before the promotion comes, it takes at least 7-10 years.

To get scalable income, you need a side job while at your main hustle.

ALSO READ: 31 DIGITAL SKILLS THAT CAN GIVE YOU MONEY FROM YOUR HOME

Whenever, side hustle is mentioned, you may want to complain that you have no time. But in 20 years from now you will still have no time.

The danger in this is that, as you grow your expenses scale up (grow). If you are on a job where your income is fixed, you might be doing okay today, but what happens when your expenses have now scaled hugely over that your fixed income.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a business. Start with a digital skill. Your earnings might not be enough at the beginning. That is why you should stay at your 9-5, to get money to pay bills

ALSO READ: ABOUT TO WED, BUT SHE IS OLDER; DO I GO AHEAD?

But, you should keep on with the digital skills, as your expertise increases so does your income increases too.

The 6th time I have declined a 30k monthly job this year

For this job, you see above, there was a time I took similar jobs for 20k and even 17k. But as my expertise scaled up, so did my income.

You can’t grow rich off a job! Seek a side hustle, most preferably a digital skill and invest in yourself.

CORPER NO FOLLOW INDIGENE 3.0

This is a true life story, though most names and towns have been changed to hide the identities.

Had I known they say, always come at last. Corper James was not much of a believer in love. He also didn’t believe in dating without purpose. He believed that every relationship was to have a sole purpose to end in marriage.

So, he went after Titilope with this purpose. He had stopped applying for jobs, apart from remote jobs. He felt he had to be with his sweetheart during this formative stage of their relationship.

There came a job offer for Corper James through his family’s influence, the offer was in Port Harcourt, he was not happy about it. But Titi advised him to take on the job as she believes that a job is also important. Corper James travelled to Port Harcourt, an 8 hours journey from Ondo.

The day before the interview, the interview got postponed. He decided to return to Ondo and come back whenever he got the notification again. Already missing his sweetheart, Corper James travelled back to Ondo.

Barely three weeks after he returned, he received a mail to come back for the interview at Port Harcourt. He was seriously perturbed about it. He felt his life was beginning to take shape here, according to his plans and was not ready to disrupt it.

He told Titi, she advised him to take the job. He also told Iya Basil about it as she was his advisor on this particular matter, she also advised him to go for it, that if this was love, there would be no end to it, but money was essential to it.

Corper James was not sure he would go for it, the interview was just Friday and by Wednesday, he was still in Isua. it was on Wednesday evening while he was watching a football match that his mentor, Dr. Ansa, advised him to attend the interview, at least for the sake of the person who found the job for him, so he would also know if he had passed.

So, it happened that early Thursday morning, Corper James set for Port Harcourt, and on Friday he wrote and passed the interview, and then by Saturday early morning, he left for Ondo State. He had promised Titi that he would visit her that weekend at her school.

By 4:30pm, he was in his house, famished from the trip from Port Harcourt down to Ondo, he should have stayed back in his place, but he had promised Titi that he would visit her this weekend and she had no idea that he even travelled to Port Harcourt. So he went to her school with a piece of pleasant surprise for her.

He got to Titi’s place by 5:30pm, network coverage in the area was something that was not to be mentioned. So there was no way he could call her. But he saw a few friends of hers, who also knew him. So he told them to help call her.

He had waited for over an hour, with no sight of her. By past 7pm, a young man, Eniola, then told him that he knew where she was and would take him there, but on getting there, he did not see her. When he told Eniola that she was not there as they walked back, Eniola then called him to a halt.

Speaking in his yoruba accented English, he spoke in low tunes, “Corper, You like this girl? You really like this girl?”

Corper James found it amusing, but he replied in the affirmative.

Eniola asked again, “Corper, I know why I deh ask this question, because one day, me too I will be a Corper and I might see a girl I want to marry, if she is doing anyhow, I will like someone to tell me.”

Corper James didn’t take it seriously as he had immersed himself in a Yoruba adage he learnt from them, which said, “T’oba r’obinrin, ti wo ki toast niyen, O ti baje” which meant “If you see any female, that no body tries to woo, that one is spoilt.”

Corper James just felt that this wasn’t true, but Eniola told him that if you ask anyone around, they will tell you that Titi’s boyfriend is Tajudeen. Corper James didn’t believe, Eniola then called a teenager and asked the question, and the teenage boy’s answer proved Eniola right.

Well, Corper James just said all he needed was the key to her house as he couldn’t possibly go back to his place by that time. He then got to see Tajudeen and begged Tajudeen to tell him the whereabouts of Titi if he had seen her, to which Tajudeen denied.

ALSO READ: I AM A WOMAN!

He then told Tajudeen to tell her that Corper needs her key if he did see her. They shook hands and left, if only he knew.

It was some minutes to 9pm and Corper James was still wearing the shoes he wore since 6am at Port Harcourt. No sight of Titi. He then told a teenage boy to take him to Tajudeen’s house, which he paid the boy N50 for, since the place is a bit far.

They went there but the house was locked. He was restless as this has never happened before. The prince of the community who knew Corper James was dating Titi, also saw him and admonished him to increase efforts concerning Titi.

Well, Titi’s landlady then gave Corper James spare key since she knew him as her boyfriend. He took the keys opened the door, kept his luggages, but he wanted to know where she was that night.

So he contracted two other teenage boys and gave them N100 and promised to give them the same amount if they found her. So they gleefully went about searching for her. After over 30 minutes, they came to tell him that they had seen her, in Tajudeen’s room.

Corper James was heartbroken, his reason was why? why would this happen? this was a girl he just boasted about to his father and siblings.

ALSO READ: IS HER ‘COOKIE’ A DETERMINANT OF HER WORTH?

Well, he wanted to be sure, so by that few minutes to 10pm, he tiptoed to Tajudeen’s door and forced his ear on the door to make any sound. When he was sure it was her voice, he shouted her name, “Titi, Ahh! Titi”.

Titi and Tajudeen were bolted to shock, there was silence, after a while, Tajudeen comes to the door sporting a brief, saying Titi is not in his house. After a brief exchange of words, Tajudeen offers to give Corper James Titi’s key, saying he holds Titi’s spare keys, but Corper James rejected it.

But he still wasn’t sure Titi was in there. So when Tajudeen went inside, he then went to the window and listened very well. It was when he heard her voice, and was sure she was there, that he left the window and went to her room and slept there. Or you could say lay there, as sleep couldn’t come. It was like a punishment.

Before sunlight, Corper James was already awake, thinking of his next move. Because he had pleaded with Titi, saying, “whenever you are tired of me, let me know. Do not cheat, but rather quit with me once you’re tired.”

The next morning after brushing his mouth, prepping to leave, there was a knock on the door. Titi quietly sauntered into the room, she knelt before Corper James pleading by all she could plead. Saying the guy forced her not to reply, forced her to spend the night in his place, when Corper James asked if they had intercourse, she swore that such did not happen.

He had planned on leaving and was previously praying to God for direction the week before, and suddenly he passed the interview exam and Titi disappointed him over here. What if this was God’s voice.

6 WAYS TO GROW YOUR FINANCES TO WEALTH

I was talking about 6 ways to manage finances the other day on my Whatsapp story and couldn’t share much of it. Hence, I brought it here.

Today is Monday and while some hate it, this particular Monday is being loved by so many people, maybe not in your country, but in my country, it is loved because it is a public holiday commemorating the Worker’s day that was supposed to be celebrated on 1st May.

There are steps to wealth creation that must be followed if one intends to be wealthy. I was reading a book of Donald Trump titled “WHY WE WANT YOU TO BE RICH” which he co-authored with Robert Kiyosaki where he said if he went broke he would be able to rise again.

ALSO READ: HONOUR D’POET: BLACKOUT!

If it was me some years back, I would have doubted that. I used to feel once a man got poor he may never be able to get rich again. But you see, the rich man already has this inbuilt instincts of wealth creation, that he can just snap back into; which is what I will be dishing out to you.

RULE ONE: If you cannot increase your income, then by all means live within it

Actually for me, I see this as a bad advice. For instance, I don’t like rice that much. Most times, it is difficult for me to take a meal of rice without a soft drink to accompany it.

While others do feel its a faux extravagant lifestyle for the poor, I don’t feel so. While some will say I should learn to save the money I use to buy this soft drinks. I look at it like, I am saving.

A person is rich by the amount of yams stored in his barn, not by the amount of yams consumed

ALSO READ: WHY WOULD A GIRL BE THE CLASS PREFECT?

Because what I actually desire is fruit juice and not some soft drink. But because my income won’t allow that, I have to live within my income. But then, you should be on the lookout to increase your income.

If you are in a position where you cannot increase your income, make sure that you do not exceed it. Plan your finances well, which leads us to rule two.

RULE TWO: Divide your income into six branches

Photo by Karolina Grabowska on Pexels.com

This second rule is the most important, though, both rules are dependent on each other.

The six branches that will now be formed will help dictate your expenses. Pay close attention:

1. GIVING

You must set out a part of your money for giving. Maybe to someone who asks for transport, or food, an event, or a cause.

Set out a part of your income for this. Reason is this, when you give, you give from a position of abundance, and so the universe just keeps the inflow coming for you.

2. SAVING

You know that story of the ant and the grasshopper. How the ant gathered food for the rainy day.

Never be a man without savings. A person is rich by the amount of yams stored in his barn, not by the amount of yams consumed.

3. INVESTING

Many times, when people save money, they then use it for investing. I always say its not supposed to be so.

To grow wealthy, you must learn to invest. But when you do so, do like the rich, who invest with a part of the whole sum.

ALSO READ: NYSC DAY TWO: SWEARING-IN PREPARATION

Don’t invest all you have without keeping a back up. Learn to be logical and not emotional when making investments. While being optimistic, also get prepared for failure.

By pouring your money into your brain, your brain will pour more money into you.

4. SELF-EDUCATION

One thing is to get rich, another is to get rich and remain rich. You should always invest into self education.

By pouring your money into your brain, your brain will pour more money into you. Just as Albert Einstein said, “the day I stop to learn, is the day I start to die.”

Always look out for the next thing you can learn, especially a digital skill.

ALSO READ: RAPE: WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

5. SPENDING

To live life you must spend, which is why you must work to earn.

So you should set aside a part of your income for this spending. To say you won’t spend is a deceit.

This is where you keep the money spent to buy new shoes, clothes, etc.

6. TITHING

Like I said, there is no rank or order to it. Tithing is just giving 10% of your total income to God, if you are a Christian.

I wouldn’t know about other religions. You could strike this off, if you’re an atheist. But I do believe in it, so its part of the six ways for me.

ALSO READ: EASY 20s, NOT SO EASY

PERCENTAGE OF THE 6 BRANCHES

With that we have a wrap on it all, but just in case ypu might want to know how to divide the total income.

  1. Giving = 10%
  2. Saving = 20%
  3. Investment = 20%
  4. Self Education = 20%
  5. Expenses = 20%
  6. Tithing = 10%

Now, working on such tight financial strings might be uncomfortable for you initially, but with time, you’d notice your growth.

3 MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WHEN TRYING TO JOIN THE NIGERIAN ARMY

Nigerian soldiers

The Nigerian army regarded as the best foot soldiers in the whole world, is quite an admirable force, especially in the African continent.

Amongst citizens of the country, it is a very revered profession. As a matter of fact, if you are not a soldier you can not even put on the army camo or any piece of clothing that bears the slightest resemblance to the uniform of the Nigerian army.

READ ALSO: 3 FACTORS TO CONSIDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR PARENTS’ HOUSE

Every year, thousands of Nigerians struggle to join the force. Most have tried for half a decade, while some others have tried for even 10 years before deciding it is not their calling.

But when people apply and they get rejected, there are reasons why their applications get rejected.

DATE OF BIRTH

When you apply to be a soldier, your documents are being checked to see if there is any mistake on the date of birth. If there is no correlation of the date of birth on your various documents, you get rejected.

Often times, most Nigerians who were rejected on their first trial, reduce their date of birth when trying for subsequent times. Unknown to them that the Nigerian Army database has already captured the date of birth on their initial trial.

YOUR CHOICE OF GUARANTOR

In the application form, there is often a requirement for a guarantor. Many times when people fill this part of the form, they do so with just anybody they can get. Some people even go ahead to pay D.P.O.s to fill this part of the form for them.

The Nigerian Army does not have much respect for the Nigerian Police Force as they perceive them to be very corrupt. So if you do really want your application to be successful, it is advisable you use a soldier, either serving or retired for this part of the form.

READ ALSO: 3 FACTORS TO CONSIDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR PARENTS’ HOUSE

CRIMINAL RECORD

Contrary to what many Nigerians think, the Nigerian army do have a very effective intelligence unit that runs checks on all applicants if you do have any criminal record.

Especially with the use of internet that has created ease of doing almost anything. So its now easier for stuffs to be uploaded from any part of the nation irrespective of where it occurred.

So, many times if you already have a criminal record, just shy away from this or keep hoping for a miracle.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN IGBO LAND

The Catholic Church is one of the oldest churches in Nigeria. In Igbo land, the Catholic church seem to be indigenous. If you were born today, you would think the Pope (or General overseer) is an Igbo man.

In my country, Nigeria, there are three major tribes — The Igbos (Easterners), the Yorubas (The Westerners) and the Hausas (The Northerners).

While the Igbos are mostly Christians, and the Hausas are mostly Muslims, the Yorubas have a mixture of the both and are regarded as the most tolerant tribe amongst the three.

The Catholic Church in Igbo land is one I have always been opportune to attend, especially the one at the end of the year.

But this year, I spent the end of the year in Yoruba land. I went to the church and it seemed ‘normal’.

Now, in the Igbo land, there are other churches too. Like Anglican, The Redeemed and some other Pentecostal and some other African instituted indigenous churches.

Catholic congregation during a mass in Igbo land, Nigeria

The thing is, the Catholic church is usually the most populated. They usually run two to three services because of the crowd. But during the Yuletide period, they’d compress all of them to one service.

In this one service, the Catholic mass which is renowned for how brief it usually is, is never brief.

In actuality, the main service would be brief. But when it comes to the money part. That is where the main issue is.

From Thanksgiving, usually a very long procession and testimonies, to bazaar to donations and financial support which will take hours.

The Yorubas seem not to travel to their places of origin, they mostly just reside wherever they’re born. So the Catholic church here isn’t filled as such.

Also, the Reverend Father or Pastor in Igbo land, is a mini god. They do make sure he doesn’t lack. From food items to equipments he may need, some even go ahead to gift him car. But it seem not to be the case this way.

In Nigeria, the Igbos are usually said to be huge lovers of money, if you have stayed in the country, you would understand it.

When they do return, it is now a time for show of wealth. For them, during the Christmas period (from 20th December to 2nd January), every occasion or event is an avenue to showcase your wealth.

The Catholic Church in Christmas is another place you also go to know those who have huge amount of money from their donations, offertory and Thanksgiving after Thanksgiving.

#ENDSARS: NIGERIA, A COUNTRY AT WAR WITH ITS FUTURE

“Nigeria is a country at war with its future. What a shame!” ~ Dr. Joe Abah

Give a black man power, and he will turn on all his brothers. There’s nothing truer than this, and I am not even joking!

Was this the Nigeria our fathers fought for, laying down their lives gruesomely? How did we get here? How do we get out of this mess? At times like this, one can’t help but worry, can we ever get out of this?

To the whites, we say it’s racism, xenophobic attacks, when they remorselessly murder and prey on our comrades; spilling our very blood out there without a second thought, but now, what is your excuse?

What’s your excuse for turning on your family? For deliberately trivializing the lives of the very people you swore to protect, what is your excuse?

Clinging on to power and never wanting to lose a finger’s-grip on it, you’ve done so at expense of innocent Nigerian lives protesting peacefully against a criminal and failed government.

Against a sophisticated criminal system where the rich gets richer and the poor? We know how that ends.

Deploying the military to shoot and kill armless and harmless peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll gate all in fear that the current system you’ve been feeding fat off might be brought down and genuine sustainable development will be brought to 60 year country with nothing to show for it!

While such a fast and decisive action has never been taken against the insurgents, Boko Haram, whom we’ve been allegedly fighting for more than a decade!

Not even against the killings in southern Kaduna was such swift response taken — but here we are, with lifeless bodies littered all over at the Toll Gate, blood flowing endlessly, tears and wailings of brothers, without sisters, sisters without brothers, fathers without daughters and mothers without sons! All of which could have been avoided. Aren’t we just enemies of our own success?

What’s your excuse for popping the head of Oke open when all he wanted was a Nigeria where the lives of humans will matter more than that of a cow!

A Nigeria with a decent police force where bail is free not just on paper and in TV commercials. A Nigeria where police brutality is reduced to the barest minimum.

A Nigeria where FOREX traders are not seen as thieves, a Nigeria where living a good life and driving a fancy car does not automatically make you a yahoo boy.

A Nigeria where serial killers and hardened criminals with no regard for human life are recruited into the police force and let loose on the streets. What’s the aim?

What in Christ sake does your soul feel when you watch your fellow man bleed and beg for death?

What’s your excuse for rendering a mother childless? What’s your excuse for leaving a child without care?

We pride in diversity and tribes, but isn’t our skin colour a common factor suppose to seep through our veins and make us one?

You preach money? How much wealth can you aquire to plead innocent of the curses you laid upon yourself?

You preach respect for order and authority? I laugh, who respects a murderer?

LIFE AS A CHILDREN TEACHER IN THE CHURCH

I have been a children teacher in my church, Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim (one of Africa’s oldest indigenous churches) since 2017. If it was something that demanded celebration, I think I should be counting an anniversary as at this time. In my church, there is an annual children thanksgiving that takes place every second weekend of October. This celebration features series of competitions, including quiz, debate and essay competitions amongst various categories.

That particular year, everything seemed to be heading towards failure. I then took it upon myself that it would be different. We did come close on two occasions. Coming second place in one and fourth on the other. We didn’t win any, but we came close. Then came the second year, we did struggle but this time, we were also rans again. It was painful, but we were now a force to reckon with. By the third year, we emerged victorious on so many events and finally winning the overall first position. It was really a sweet moment. We were gearing up for more of it, before the pandemic suspended the whole jamboree that came with the annual thanksgiving.

Now, as someone who had been in the department before then, I think I had some experience or knowledge of where my teachers failed. I discovered personally, that people didn’t like a perfect preacher. They also enjoyed real life stories aside the bible. All these I employed in the teens class, and another thing I did was to crack a few jokes here and then. But one thing I learnt is, you have to make sure you avoid shaming them. You also have to know a thing or two about motivating teenage students. Also know there are various teaching methods for teenagers and also for younger children. Most tips I employ to teach teenagers can be found here.

Initially, I feared teaching the younger classes. I felt I would not be able to come to their terms. I felt even my knowledge on types of teachers would not be able to help. As I would totally need a whole different teaching methods for nursery class. I knew I needed to be friends with them, and at the same time be respected by them. There had to a measure, a balance between love and being stern.

Without enough pictures, I had to revert to a style I can not ever forget that was used to preach the story of David and Goliath to me, while in junior secondary school. This was a story I had heard numerous times, but it seemed like this day I was hearing it fo the first time. Moreso, it seemed like the preacher, Pastor Dave Onyekwere, was a witness to the event, he narrated it like he stood and watched David and Goliath. He, Pastor Dave Onyekwere of Seventh-Day Adventist Church, was the principal of my school then, Adventist Comprehensive High School, Elele; here in Rivers State, Nigeria. He made us wish he taught us everyday.

So this method of his, was one I employed as my teaching method for children. I enjoyed how I grabbed all of their attention. Though, the children department in a church seems to be peripheral and less important. But people fail to know that most times, failed adulthood is as a result of improper childhood; and unlike the adult section, the children department is the only place where you have the minds of people, highly receptive of the teachings you feed them.

One sad perk of being a children teacher in the church, is that, to every child you are their hero. A pastor could make wrong utterances or mistakes and people would understand that he is a human, but to the child, you are a hero with no chink in your armour.

HOW MUCH NO IS ENOUGH?

This morning, when I decided to check my phone for updates on all social media platforms; on WhatsApp, I saw on a friend’s status, something funny and perturbing. She had gone to register her SIM card. The guy at the SIM registration centre who processed the documents for her, had copied down her phone number without her consent, to keep in touch with her.

Now, he even followed her to her house. How much NO would be enough for this guy to understand that she is not interested. This is a one of the many questions that bothers ladies. While a lady is feeling that she is being pestered; most times, the guy (the pester) often feels her NO is just her way of saying he should try harder. How this works is one thing that is very difficult to fathom. She shared a screenshot of their conversation on WhatsApp, after he had sent her a message.

Pester: I can’t just get you off my head, I really like you and want us to be friends. I promise not to hurt your feelings, just give me a chance in your life.

Uninterested Girl: No, No, Leave me alone!

Pester: If it were possible for me to stop thinking of you, I wouldn’t have been disturbing you.

Uninterested Girl: I really don’t like you or have any personal feelings growing anywhere for you. Leave me alone! You took my number off your customer care book for this? I’m really being nice.

She ended up blocking calls from his number, and also blocking him on WhatsApp, but part of her is still scared that the young man might stalk her to her house.

Another instance was one that happened in Ondo state of Nigeria, where a man beat up a married woman and tore her cloth because she reacted after he touched her buttocks. Though the guy was arrested by the Nigerian Police on her complaint, but somehow, he was released.

Many times, ladies complain of how they want to be able to lead a normal life, and not live as prey. It saddens me because I can’t really know how they feel. But how about the males, how about them. What leads to this rush of desire on sighting a woman. How does her negative reaction motivate you further? What makes you feel her no would be changed by your constant push?
