The entertainment industry is one of the industry in Africa that still thrives to this day despite the various obstacles and challenges of the continent. Nigeria has the largest entertainment industry in Africa, but most of the spotlight is centred on Lagos, the commercial capital of the country.
Southern Nigeria, famed for their intelligence and oil wealth, has always not been at par with Lagos and the world at large, whenever it came to entertainment. As a matter of fact, whoever needed to really make it in the entertainment industry has to move to Lagos. But recently, there has been a shift.
WHERE IS SOUTH SOUTH?
South-South part of Nigeria often referred to as Niger Delta, is a sub region with nine states with a population of about thirty one million people of more than forty ethnic groups.
The region has the highest deposit of mineral resources in Nigeria although over time the media has entangled her image in conflicts, political violence, and undulating leaders which isn’t the true reflection of the people, places and opportunities found in the area.

SOUTH SOUTH MEDIA WEEK 2021 is the third edition of the annual event, with the last one held in 2019. The deadly pandemic could not let it happen last year.
This year’s edition tagged “EMERGE” is designed to throw a spotlight on emerging systems, ideas, people, platforms and initiatives.
WHAT YOU STAND TO BENEFIT
The program usually has a large audience as it touches every single sphere of entertainment, right from writing, to music, to film production, to marketing.
It usually entails conferences, fireside chats, panel sessions, exhibitions and master classes. As a matter of fact, I decided and published my first book – THE VISIT after attending this event back in 2019.
If you are interested in the Media, then you should not miss this as it houses over 5,000 personnel in the course of five days. So aside from the knowledge, it also provides a huge avenue for networking.
I can talk about this because……… I was at the last edition back in 2019. Though, there are now tickets to it, but it is relatively cheap. You either pay N2,000 ($4.89) for each day or you can pay N5,000 ($12.24) for all five days of the event.
